Welcome
Hello everyone,
My name is Sonya K. Peck, M. Ed. I am a retired special education teacher with over two decades of experience in private, public, and charter schools. As a consultant and educator, my main focus is to bring students' reading and math levels to age and above grade-level compliance.
.
My Mission
The mission of the Severance Virtual Tutorial Program is to provide an intensive and cultivating academic tutoring program for students with acquired cognitive disabilities. Our Philosophy is based on the Pygmalion Effect. This effect occurs when a person (teacher) positively or negatively impacts student achievement. We want to enable students to succeed and become productive citizens, establishing high expectations and a self-fulfilling prophecy of success and achievement for all children, particularly for high-incidence achievement gap populations of students with acquired cognitive disabilities. Having high expectations for students is not only an educational or instructional issue but an ethical and social issue. SVTP wants to break the cycle of low expectations and close the learning gap (the difference between a learner's current level of knowledge and the expected level for their age or grade), achievement gap (unfair distribution of educational results and benefits), and the opportunity gap (inequitable distribution of resources and opportunities) placed on children.

The Vision
Education is the cornerstone of success for our children, and it is essential to provide them with
the right foundation from an early age. To ensure the success of our children, there must be a collective effort from parents, schools, and communities. Our children are currently highly deficient in reading, writing, math, and science. My primary mission and intention is to tutor students in a more supportive and compliant learning environment and empower parents so that their children can reach their full potential and thrive academically and beyond. Early learning skills, such as reading, writing, and math, must be prioritized. By advocating for improved early childhood education, fostering supportive school environments, and empowering parents and communities, we can ensure that our children reach their full potential and thrive academically and emotionally. Together, let us pave the way for a brighter future for our children.
